A BRIEF HISTORY OF PULLAMPALLIL FAMILY During the third century A.D. a gentleman of Kalli llam (a Brahmin family) of Kuravilangad (a place near Kottayam) embraced Christianity and he with his family moved towards south and settled at Prayar near Chengannur and founded the Thecharil family. In course of time the family became rich and prosperous. They took active part in the construction of the first Syrian Church at Chengannur. During the 9th century most of the members of Puthethu family migrated to different places near Aranmula and the family had five branches viz. Puthethu, Kochethu, Kizhakkeputhethu, Ramachira and Thundiathu. Kuzhikala Mulamoottil Varkey (1829 1907) forefather of Pullampallil family was the grand son of Thundiathu Chandy Mathen. Varkey had three brothers and three sisters. One sister was married to Ittiyavira of Meparathu family in Ranni. In 1864 Varkey with his wife Saramma of Perangattu family, Kozhencherry, and his five sons named Mathai, Varughese, Thomas, Yohannan and Mathen migrated to Ranni and settled in that part of land called Pullampallil and acquired that family name. The families of five sons have the branch names of Edayilepurayil, Nambooriathu, Memuriyil, Puthenpurayil and Vadakamuriyil. During the twentieth Century the family spread to different parts of India and to few foreign countries. The members of the family took active part in the construction of (1)the M.T.L.P.School Pullampallil, (2) the E.A.L.P.S. Kunnam, (3) MT.H.S. Kunnam (4) The MarThoma Medical Mission Hospital, Ranni, (5) M.T.L.P.S. Naranammoozhy. Moreover they took active part in the construction of a number of Christian Churches in Ranni. Now there are more than seven score family units and there are Priests, full time Evangelists, Pastors, doctors, engineers, members of the I.A.S. and a number of post-graduates among the members. Kudumbayogam was started in 1946. A detailed family history was published in 1992. A directory of the Pullampallil branch was published in 1997. Rev. P.M. Mathew memorial Endowment was established in 1997 with a view to help the poor and the needy. Annual meetings are organized by the committee. We thank God for having helped us in the ages past and with his help we hope to do something better in the years to come
